AT SPRING VALLEY GUEST RANCH

SW SASKATCHEWAN

Grand Opening includes cocktails, show and snacks

RAVENSCRAG, Saskatchewan, July 8th, 2006 – The newly christened Saville Theatre opens on July 8th with 25 sizzling Saskatoon singers, ECLIPSE, famous for delivering blues, jazz, pop and gospel favourites with their trademark energy and unique sound.  The popular chorus plans to sing such favourites as Summertime, Georgia, When the Saints  and California Dreaming, among others, backed by keyboard, percussion and guitar at the celebratory opening of Canada’s newest arts centre.

Conducting ECLIPSE will be BJ Harris who has toured extensively with “Streetnix.”  Other veteran musicians accompanying the chorus include well-known guitarist Ken Marco, who has played with “Blood, Sweat and Tears”; Artistic Director Wes Froese on key board, with Mark Altman on percussion.

Formed three years ago by a group of Saskatoon vocalists and professional musicians, ECLIPSE released their first CD in 2005, a compilation of their most popular pieces.  From a variety of musical backgrounds, the group deigned to sing classical  music or traditional choral music, preferring to create a new and vigorous sound with a vibrant artistic soul.  Their next gig is at the Saskatchewan  Jazz Festival on June 25.

When Presenter Jim Saville, who by sheer fluke, bought a deconsecrated church in March this year and decided to turn it into a theatre, it all came together in a flash of inspiration.  Situated between the barn and the bar, the former church was towed 50 kms. from Consul, SW Saskatchewan on May 17th to its new home on Saville’s Spring Valley Guest Ranch.  The entrepreneur plans to bring arts-related events to this corner of southwest Saskatchewan, adjacent to the Cypress Hills, a 20-minute drive away.

The gala event will be preceded by cocktails at 7:00 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30 p.m., followed by a light supper, all included in price of the $20 ticket. Saville intends to feed his audiences as well as entertaining them. The church, which adjoins a saloon, holds 200.

Saville has already signed his next show for a private event in August: Governor-General Award winning Manitoba native Heather Bishop, the top-selling folk artist.
